2026 SUMMER PORTFOLIO : Drawing 101 + Figure Drawing + Self Portrait

$1,050.00

PORTFOLIO CAMP: Observational Drawing + Figure + Portrait

Dates: July 27 - 31

Time: 10am - 3pm  (25 hours)

Supplies : Included

Class size: 8 to 10

Grades: 6th, 7th, 8th

Location: East 7th street, between Church + Beverly in Kensington, BK. 10 minute walk from the F/G or Q/B, 2 minute walk from B103, 4 minute walk from B68.

In this 5 day intensive artists will learn the basics of observational drawing, learn how to draw a self portrait and the human figure. Learning proportion is fundamental to drawing the human figure. Artists will learn how to layer drawings and find proportions using large basic shapes as a way to compare the size and shape of one part of the body to another. They will learn about drawing facial features and placing them on a “map” of the face. They will work from photographs and from life. They will learn how to fully render and shade with details, light and shadow.  We may also visit the Brooklyn Museum or another museum to look at figure and portrait drawing in IRL. This is a lot to learn in a week. It’s possible artists will not complete their pieces but they will get a strong start and foundation. For artists who have already begun these pieces there will be review and I can help them completing their pieces. If artists complete all of the pieces in this program before it is over I will help with extra pieces.
