$1,050.00

PORTFOLIO CAMP: Drawing 101 + Fantastical Sandwiches + Still Life

Dates: July 20-24

Time: 10am - 3pm (25 hours)

Supplies : Included

Class size: 8 to 10

Grades: 6th, 7th, 8th

Location: East 7th street, between Church + Beverly in Kensington, BK. 10 minute walk from the F/G or Q/B, 2 minute walk from B103, 4 minute walk from B68.

In this 5 day intensive artists will learn the basics of observational drawing, the primary required skill for art high school portfolios in NYC. Then they will learn how to draw a still life and a fantastical sandwich, two of the required pieces for portfolios. We will look at fantastical and surreal art and discuss what makes it different from realism. They will learn pencil techniques like shading and line quality, draw objects from observation and explore subjects and imagery that inspire them, learn to thumbnail ideas, and learn about composition, foreground / background, design and create inventive compositions that draw the viewer in. We may also visit the Brooklyn Museum or another museum to look at fantastical art and still life drawing in IRL. This is a lot to learn in a week. It’s possible artists will not complete their pieces but they will get a strong start and foundation. For artists who have already begun these pieces there will be review and I can help them completing their pieces. If artists complete all of the pieces in this program before it is over I will help with extra pieces.
